DANCE CLASSES

- TAP -

Tap dancing is a rhythmical and entertaining genre in dance. It's a form of percussion using tap shoes to create music to the ears.

Learning the art of tap can be challenging to start as students need to learn how beats of music are put together in order to create tap beats that fit the music piece.

We believe tap dancing is ideal for any age, from toddler to retirement. It helps develop the brain and mind-muscle connection as well as maintaining this as we age and our coordination & balance deteriorates.

The awesome part of tapping is that it can be done in many different styles from street tap to waltz, tango or 42nd Street - the choice is yours!

At DCPA we teach NZAMD Tap syllabus from Pre-grade to solo diploma. NZAMD's tap style is very natural/street style and has been programmed in a way that allows the students to progress each year to reach new levels.

Although it seems to be one of the hardest dance forms, fun and rewarding!

- JAZZ -

Jazz/Modern dance is one of the most popular dance genres across the dance community.

Jazz starts with beginners learning the basic technique and movements within jazz dance.

The style uses turns, floor work, travelling steps, leaps, high kicks and much more!

The technique for jazz originates from ballet with an added junky, upbeat vibe. It's fun, energetic and suitable for all ages.

At DCPA we follow the NZAMD syllabus which allowed the students to sit the exam in September which we work towards during the year. After the exams, we focus on performances for the end of year concert.

- BALLET -

Classical ballet is a highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It is the foundation to multiple forms of dance as the skills translate to other styles like Jazz and lyrical etc.

It not only teaches discipline but also control, strength, balance and flexibility. Due to the strict nature of ballet it provides students skills that can be applied to school, work and day to day life.

DCPA teaches NZAMD syllabus which is designed to allow students to progress every year without pressure. The exams are made to challenge the students each year as they improve their technique and dance musicality. We suggest every dancer should have basic ballet training if they wish to further their dance career.
